The Master

I've actually forgot the first time I ever heard a Marvin Gaye

song. When I did first hear one of his songs I probably didn't

realize the effect his music would have on my life. He made songs

protesting government, war, and societal oppresion popular - yet

few give him credit. His lyrics are masterpieces; poetry that flows

from Marvin into the souls of his listeners. Sadly enough, thirty

years later the problems he sung of still exist. The greater tradegy

here is that so few have failed to hear his message. Truly we must

"Find a way, to bring some loving here today." He was a prodigy,

a genius whose message was muffled through the blanket of prejudice

in our society.

The variety of Marvin Gaye's songs truly illustrate the

master he was. There are the bubble - gum love songs such as

"My Precious Love." There are the hard - hitting political statments

such as "You're the Man," "What's Going On," and "Inner City Blues."

There are the lustful, spiritual tunes such as "Let's Get it On,"

and "Sexual Healing." Whatever mood I am in, there is a Marvin Gaye

song that can speak to me. When he was killed the world lost one of

its greatest prophets. A man who whose teachings urged people to

overcome the demons of society and make their voice heard as his was.

Marvin, I am sure we will all meet again in "A Funky Space

Reincarnation."
